In order to deal with the crisis of water shortages that may occur anytime, TWD has already worked on “the backup system for raw water” and “the reserve capacity of treated water”.
In the aspect of reserve capacity, TWD established the Waterway Separation Construction in Taipower Cukeng Power Station for intake of raw water and completed the construction of 2nd Raw Water Transmission Mains in October 2009. It made the daily transportation capability increasing to 4.2 million tons, and with the mutual support of 1st Raw Water Transmission Mains and 2nd Raw Water Transmission Mains, TWD provided the safeguards by the dual system benefits. In the aspect of reserve capability, after completing the construction of 6th purification facilities of Zhitan Purification Plant in 2013, the purification capacity will increase to 4.36 million tons a day and the reserve rate of purification plant will be increased to 34%. It will enable TWD to deal with the pressure of water supply during the increasing turbidity of raw water after typhoons or heavy rains.
To enhance the inspections and researches of water purification management and the abilities to deal with emergency, TWD established Advanced Water Management Inspection Plant at Zhitan Purification Plant in 2007 to carry out various test procedures of purification. It has good utility of implement presently.
- Purification：Using the “checking and controlling the process at all levels” strategy to reduce turbidity of unit processing, to enhance the utility of disinfection and to ensure the safety of water quality of water output. TWD installed all the purification processes to “Water Purification Information Center” with strict inside controlling standard to control the water quality.
Water Quality Management：Over 120 inspection tests were using to monitor the water quality in order to ensure it totally meeting the quality standard of the drinking water of advanced countries. TWD established the 24hrs “Water Quality Monitoring System”, and published the inspection information of water quality on the website to facilitate public inquiries at any time.
